Scrap Yarn & Thread

Posted on Aug. 31, 2006 by Brenda Stratton

Most of us who crochet at some point find ourselves with a stash of leftover yarn and thread. I am no exception. Most recently, I've been using up some of my scraps to crochet Caps to the Capital. But, over the years, I've made many other scrap projects including afghans, dishcloths, hats, scarves, rugs and just about anything else you can think of.

Once, I found myself with an overabundance of crochet thread. I made a few floral doilies and still found myself with a lot of thread left. So, I held several strands together to crochet dishcloths with a size G crochet hook. Admittedly, the resulting dishcloths weren’t quite as absorbent as I would have liked, but I found that after repeated washings they softened up and worked just fine. You could also make coasters, hot pads and other kitchen items using several strands of thread.

Be creative and see what you can come up with. But, if you find this just isn’t something that you like to do, consider donating your scrap and odd balls of yarn and thread to charitable organizations that will put them to good use.
