Making Your Work Lie Flat
Posted on Dec. 29, 2006 by Brenda Stratton
Have you ever had trouble getting your work to lie flat when you’re working in rounds? There could be a couple of different reasons causing it.
Part of the problem could be your tension. Or, you may be increasing too many stitches per round. Here is a foolproof formula for working in rounds that you can adapt to your own stitch requirements. If this doesn't work for you, look to your tension to find the problem.
Make a chain as directed , join with a sl st to form a ring.
Note: Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round and move it up as you work each row. This can be a conventional stitch marker, a safety pin, bobby pin, paper clip or even a snippet of yarn in a contrasting color.
Rnd 1: Work the prescribed number of sts in the ring.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sts in each st around (you will have doubled the amount of stitches on rnd 1).
Rnd 3: Skip 1 st, work 2 sts in next st around.
Rnd 4: Skip 2 sts, work 2 sts in next st around.
Rnd 5: Skip 3 sts, work 2 sts in next st around.
Continue increasing in this manner, skipping one more st between increases to desired circumference. Your work should lie perfectly flat.
