The Spirit of Giving
Posted on Dec. 10, 2007 by Brenda Stratton
Colored lights, gaily wrapped presents and the smell of good things baking permeate the holiday season. Many of us look forward to choosing special gifts for our friends and loved ones and keeping them secret until the magic moment they are opened.
But, for others, the prospect of hitting the stores with a long list of presents to buy can be daunting. With today’s busy lifestyles, it’s often difficult to take the time away from work and holiday preparations to shop. But, there are things you can do to minimize the time spent shopping yet maximize your enjoyment of selecting just the right gift. Planning ahead and doing your shopping online go a long way towards minimizing the stress of holiday shopping.
To help with my planning, I use a small notebook. I make a page for each person on my list and divide it into sections. In these sections, I list that person’s interests, favorite colors, a personal wish list, and the gift I gave the previous year. I date the pages and keep this notebook to refer to the following year.
If you have a crocheter or knitter on your list, or want to create a list of things you would like someone else to give you, I’ve made the following suggestions for putting together a tool kit that includes basics along with some extras just for fun. Of course, you can revise the list to suit your own particular wants or needs.
