Learning to Crochet

Posted on Apr. 12, 2006 by Kris Frye

Well, my crochet lessons have officially started, and Brenda's teaching me how to stitch granny squares. I love it! The pattern is quite simple, but very pretty, and I'm already thinking of ways I can use it. We haven't done color changes yet, but this is where my urge to skip the whole baby step thing and go right on to running marathons begins to get in the way. My head is spinning with all the possibilities of just this one motif!

I'm hoping to learn enough to crochet a few projects for my brother's wedding. Weddings are a time you want to share heartfelt gifts and that goes double for my future sister-in-law: She moved here from Poland and most of her family is still there. I want to let her know she's becoming a member of our family, too, so she now has family in Indiana! There are so many Polish traditions my family is beginning to combine with the traditions I grew up with, and it will be fun to see the results. Plus, I only have one brother so I want to make this special for him.
